Mr. Rangaswami retired as the Member of the Board and President - Larsen & Toubro Limited in June 2011 and was the Advisor to the Chairman, Larsen & Toubro Limited till June 2014. He headed the Operations of the ECC Division-L&T, the largest construction organization in India which operates in Middle East, Africa, SAARC and far-East countries apart from India. Post retirement, besides being the Advisor to Chairman, he is also the Chairman of the Board of two independent unlisted internal companies of L&T – Metallurgical Material Handling Independent Company & Infrastructure Independent Company. After completing B. Tech from IIT-Madras he joined ECC (A fully owned subsidiary of L&T at that time) in 1965 and since then he has been contributing immensely to the growth of L&T in various roles and capacities. He has been instrumental in designing innovative and cost-effective designs for many structures, some of them conceived and designed for the first time in India. He became Director in the year 2005.
He is also a member of the Board of Governors of National Institute of Construction Management & Research (NICMAR), Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers-UK, Board Member - IIT RAM, Ahmedabad.
He has several awards attributed to him including “Economic Times ACETECH 2007” Award for professional ethics, achievements and rare contribution in the field of construction & environmental friendly architecture, Distinguished Alumnus Award-2002 - IIT Madras, “Outstanding Concrete Engineer of Tamil Nadu” for the year 2010 from Indian Concrete Institute, Tamil Nadu Chapter, “Life Time Achievement” – An Infrastructure & Construction Industry recognition, Awards from EPC World 2013.
Whilst all these are the core of his activities, he makes it a point to dedicate time and support to contribute something to the society.
