Dr. Indumathi Nambi is Associate Professor and Head of the Environment and Water Resources Division in the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Madras. Prior to joining IIT Madras, she worked as a consultant at M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation. Between 1994-2000, she was a Research Assistant at Clarkson University, USA and served as a Design Engineer at Larsen and Toubro between 1993 to 1994.
Dr. Indumathi is a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Clarkson University, Potsdam, New York, M.E. (Env.) from Centre for Environmental Studies, Anna University, Chennai and B.E. (Civil) from College of Engineering, Anna University, Chennai.
Her research experience and interests include Ground water – state of contamination and transport, Remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater - Chromium, Petroleum compound pesticide & micro pollutants, Hazardous chemicals - Risk assessment and management, Water Treatment, Wastewater reuse, Solid waste management, Industrial Waste Water Treatment - Electro plating, tannery and textile, Environment Impact Assessment, Electro-chemical methods for contaminated water & Soil, Biogas from food waste, Micro-fuel cells coupled waste water treatment & Chromium recovery, Petro Chemical waste & waste water treatment and Removal of antibiotics & antimicrobial resistance in water system. She has published more than 25 journal publications and is constantly engaged in consultancy projects in Tamil Nadu and throughout the country as an Environmental Expert.
