Dr. Ashwin Mahalingam is an Associate Professor of the Building Technology and Construction Management Division in the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Madras. He completed his B. Tech in Civil Engineering from IIT Madras in 1998 and went on to do a Masters and Ph.D in Civil Engineering from Stanford University. Following a stint as the Graduate Teaching and Research Assistant at Stanford University and Product Development Lead at GlobeRanger Corporation, Texas, he joined the faculty of IIT Madras, his alma mater, in 2006.
His interest areas include Infrastructure planning and management, risk assessment and allocation, mechanisms for shaping successful infrastructure projects and cross-cultural issues in global infrastructure projects. His consultancy work includes varied assignments converging many varied subjects like sustainable development, social entrepreneurship, Public Private Partnerships in Infrastructure projects, Project Management, Organizational Behaviour, Disaster Management, and using cutting edge information technology in construction management.
His recent research work includes improving performance of Tsunami Housing Projects and developing a Databook for benchmarking Indian Water Utilities for the ADB. He is also a member of Engineers for a Sustainable World and American Society of Civil Engineers. He was awarded the Young Faculty Recognition Award from IIT Madras, Distinguished Service Award and Best paper Award from Engineering Project Organizational Society.
Dr. Ashwin brings his intense passion and unique expertise in blending technology and sustainability in infrastructure development and urbanization to add value to CUBE’s various domains of work.
